Beta #2

Once again, there are tears. Lots and lots of tears. And they're not happy tears.

It's not horrible, but it's not great either. It only rose to 277, so it didn't double.

The nurse who called is one I've never spoken with before. She said it only rose by 53%, they were concerned, and I'd have to get a repeat beta on Tuesday. When I pointed out that 149 doubled equals 298, so 277 couldn't bethat far off, she argued with me at first but then finally relented and went to ask someone else.

It's actually a rise of 86%, a doubling time of 53.66 hours. And when I look in the Beta Base calculator, the average for a singleton at 16dpo is 206 overall, 202 for the 33-37 age range.

So why am I so darn upset? I don't know, but I am. R has put a tissue box on one side of me, and an adorable, fluffy cat on the other. Normally she's a grump, but she rises to the occasion when I have moments like this.

I have a 14-page paper due in 9 hours. I've barely started. I can write fast, but even so, I don't think it's going to happen...at least, not by the deadline.

Shame on her for making you cry with her miscalculation :( I think we are more tense at this point than we realize, and when there is so much at stake, it doesn't take much to make a girl cry. Hoping for happy tears very soon! Try to hang in there - and get crackin' on that paper!

My doubling time between beta 1 and 2 was 61hrs. And I had triplets in there at the time. So I don't know what to think about doubling time. It went up! That's what is exciting!

This might be a stupid question, but was the draw at exactly the same time of day? When you're looking at numbers going up by over a hundred over 48 hours, a couple of hours difference can mean a lot. I know where you're at with this - and frankly, even more than doubling wouldn't take away your doubts after all that you've been through - only a live baby would do that. BUT there are all sorts of reasons (vanishing twin?) that your number might not perfectly double in exactly 48 hours and not all of them are bad. Hate that you're having to wait some more - the waiting is horrible. Hugs x

Oh that nurse makes me MAD! What a dolt. I think your second number sounds great, but I know the extra waiting and anguish is torture. Hang in there and keep us posted!

URGH! I'm sorry the nurse was such an idiot and made things sound worse than they are. I'm sorry that it wasn't a super stellar number, but it is true that you just can't tell with these things. I have a friend who's beta around the same timeframe doubled in 49 hours and she's pg with twins. Continuing to hope and pray!

That really makes me mad. Don't they know how important it is to have their facts straight? I had a doubling of 85% and I was pregnant with triplets at the time. I freaked out but my nurse assured me I was well within normal. Hope you get a great doubling beta on Tuesday.

I'm surprised the nurse was such a negative nelly! I thought they looked for a 70% increase! You have wayyy more than that. It definitely doesn't need to double. I know you need to be cautious...but I still think it should be cautiously optimistic! I know of LOTS of healthy preganncies that started with much less than a 48 hour doubling time! Please hang in there, take care of yourself. Did they schedule another beta or is this the long wait now?

Oh my God that nurse makes me so mad!!! That is ridiculous, and she should know better. It's great that it went up and hoping for a great number on Tuesday!!

That doubling time sounds pretty normal to me! Lets hope that number keeps rising and rising!
